Iisaku Church will receive a stained-glass window with Our Lady
A stained-glass window by the acclaimed artist Andrei Lobanov, depicting the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus, will appear in the side window of the Iisaku church by summer. A businessman will make such a gift to the parish.
Iizaku parish pastor Avo Kiir recalled that parish member and businessman Toomas Tamm, who lives in Switzerland, once asked what he could do for the parish.
- I believe that each generation could contribute to the church - if previous generations have erected a church here, we can enrich it in order to praise God. It is good to do this precisely through works of art that have both an aesthetic and a religious-spiritual plan. We live in Maarjamaa, where the figure of Our Lady has been unjustly left in the background. So we ordered a stained-glass window depicting Our Lady," Kiir said.
The priest explained that Andrei Lobanov was chosen as the artist, since the stained-glass window recently created for the church in Viru-Nigula, for example, confirms his talent. In addition, we are talking about a religious man.
The artist himself told the "North Coast" that the Iizaku stained glass window is a great challenge in terms of both content and form - the image of Our Lady requires great responsibility and a stained glass window of over 3.5 square meters must seamlessly blend in with the temple environment.
